This event is an opportunity for small-scale growers, urban growers, community garden leaders and ag service providers to build community, engage in production-focused workshops, and share resources. Topics include building soil productivity, insect and disease management, growing vegetables, berries, and tree fruits, and more.

A one day clinic for respirator fit testing will be held in Wayne County on April 24. Please be sure to register by April 14th, as space is limited. 

Spring started earlier than usual in some parts of New York's fruit production regions, and CCE is taking a proactive approach to get information on frost protection and its science out to NY fruit growers. There have been some advances in frost protection in recent years, along with promising ongoing research. We will be having a Cornell Statewide Frost Protection Webinar with several Cornell scientists and an invited speaker next week. Growers will have plenty of time to ask questions during this very informative webinar as apple trees continue advancing their bud phenology.

This workshop is intended for mushroom producers and those considering mushroom production. Hosted by CCE Wyoming County, the workshop includes a tour and discussion of Flat #12 Mushrooms production process, from substrate to sales, including their food safety plan creation, implementation, and the audit process. We will view two tarping demos to see the effect of overwinter tarping on nitrogen availability and best practices for terminating large cover crops using a tarp. We will also hear from Mike Basedow of CCE ENYCH and learn about the ongoing results of herbicide research trials he is conducting.  Bryan Brown of NYS IPM will discuss pre-plant preparations and mulches that could be useful for controlling weeds without herbicides.   

Identifying the differences between weed species and key differences between annuals and perennials that factor into management will also be covered.
