The 4th annual Young Fruit Grower Study Trip will be held in the Hudson Valley region of New York August 5th-7th.
The Young Fruit Growers of WNY have organized an excellent itinerary. Stops will include innovative grower orchards, farm markets, and packing houses in the Hudson Valley. Participants will learn about grafting, hail netting, balancing new varieties, handling a transition, and more.
The study tour is focused on helping next generation growers develop the knowledge and skills needed to take their family farms into the future.
There are no strict requirements to join. We have had people from different regions join the tour who are under 35, who are on family farms, who are growers in middle management positions, who may be beginning to manage farms, or who may be starting farms in the future. New growers are also welcome.
Attendees must book their own hotel rooms. Blocks of hotel rooms at group rates are reserved until July 17th.
A coach will be departing Monday morning from Cornell AgriTech in Geneva and returning Wednesday evening. Attendees may also meet the tour in the Hudson Valley and travel the tour in their own vehicles.
For details about the trip see below, including: hotel reservation information, detailed itinerary, coach transportation from Geneva, and costs.
Generous trip sponsorships will offset the costs of transportation and some meals. See below for costs to participants.
Tour stops will include:
- Mead Orchards
- Dressel Farms
- Hudson River Fruit Distributors
- Angry Orchard Cidery
- Crist Brothers Orchards and Packing House
- Hudson Valley Research Laboratory
- And more…
Food and beverages include a social event at Angry Orchard and dinner at Heritage Food + Drink.
